Save Our Parks

We are riding the length of Hennepin Canal Parkway on bicycle this weekend if it is still open. These parks ways such as Illini State Park near the I & M Canal which we and many out of state people use are Illinois treasures and should be preserved at any cost. The trails at Jubilee College State Park are some of the best anywhere and are used extensively by hikers, runners and bicyclists who frequently stay at the campgrounds. These are the things that bring out of state revenue into state coffers.
When I was in elementary school in the 1950’s, every year we had a program where school children would donate pennies to preserve the Carl Sandburg birthplace, which our small town of Galesburg is so proud of. This Penny Parade is still held today. This historic site is to be closed also.
Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn has an online petition keep Illinois state parks open. Please go to
